Top 3 Hair Picks of the 2014 People's Choice Awards

Mure Salon's fan-followers favorite picks for the 40th Annual People’s Choice Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California, January 8th.

Naya Rivera - Arrivals at the People's Choice Awards — Part 2
Bronze beauty
Glee star, Naya Rivera, threw fans and onlookers for a loop, when she showed up to the red carpet event boasting a blonde and shoulder-length 'do. The star looked nearly unrecognizable after ditching her dark brunette locks and rocking her new look with a simple yet sexy nude, black and white Michael Kors dress. She accentuated her fabulous new hair style with a fresh makeup look — lighter eyebrows, thick mascara, nude lips and neutral makeup tones, and complimenting her new hair with a diamond stud earrings.

Mohawk made of knots
Vampire Diaries star, Nina Dobrev, looked ever so punky and perfect as she rocked an intricate, braided/twisted/knotted 'do - AKA - the faux-hawk! To achieve the sleek and sexy updo, a Mohawk was first created, containing approximately 100 textured knots starting from the back of her neck all the way to the top. From there, many complicated twists and turns were created, held up together with bobby pins and hairspray. The pulled-back style highlighted the star’s sparkling Jenny Packham turtleneck dress. Not only did she walk away with Mure Salon's Award for Best Updo of the night, she also accepted the award for “Best Chemistry” with ex, Ian Somerhalder, for their on-screen relationship on the pair's hit sitcom - Vampire Diaries.

The hostess with the mostess
Kat Dennings could easily (and literally) hold the crown for best hair of the night, as her romantic waves and embellished headband looked flawless at the red-carpet event. The 2 Broke Girls Co-Host dazzled on stage with her locks styled in a loose half-up hairstyle with pieces dramatically flowing around her face. She completed the look with her trademark raspberry lipstick and classic cat eyeliner, eventually changing into a breath-taking floor-length, strapless David Meister black dress.

The Holiday Halo - Angelic, Classic and Timeless

Three simple steps to achieving a halo braid in time for the holidays

The halo braid, also known as the milkmaid braid or braided updo, is this holiday’s most anticipated hairstyle. Celebrities such as Scarlett Johansson, Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller have all rocked the halo braid - even Carrie Underwood hopped on the halo braid bandwagon in her recent holiday special The Sound of Music Live. Upper East Side's Mure Salon will walk you through this timeless yet potentially tricky-to-achieve look, to have you holiday-ready in just minutes!

Step 1: Separate the back of the hair into two sections - make sure your hair is completely dry.

Step 2: Braid both of the sections into pigtails, securing each with subtle hair bands.

Step 3: Wrap the braids around your hair in the direction that of your choice -  if you prefer your halo to wrap completely around the head, then wrap one braid around the front, and one braid around the back, securing them tightly with bobby pins. If you choose to have the braids sit in the front of your head, then criss-cross them as show in the picture below.
