Balayage Highlights – The Best Kept Secret in NYC!

If you want to lighten up your hair with a new and natural technique without having to frequently upkeep your color, Mure Salon in the Upper East Side has a solution for you. Now you can join Gisele Bündchen, Eva Longoria and Sarah Jessica Parker in achieving this brand new and illuminating hair design.

Balayage is a coloring technique in which hair color is swept or painted on to the hair to create depth and dimension. It is a method in which lightener or hair color is literally swept onto the individual hair strand to create lightness and depth. The method originated in France in the 1970s, deriving from the French word “to sweep.”

New York City and Los Angeles salons are starting to unveil this fabulous new trend, causing a worldwide demand for balayage highlights. And Mure Salon has jumped on this balayage bandwagon!

The difference between the traditional foil highlight technique – Balayage, also referred to as “hair painting,” creates the most natural looking results. When applied correctly by a color specialist, this technique can give your hair a sun-kissed and natural glow. When a salon professional applies traditional foils, he or she works row by row, causing the highlight pattern to appear very linear and grid-like…but with this new specialty technique, there is much more flexibility, as the highlights are literally painted on, resulting in a more natural blend and customized pattern.

Our Mure Salon color specialists are trained to apply the color midshaft, which is where the sun naturally hits your hair the most. From there, they, gently paint up to the roots, making the growth at the scalp look more gradual and natural instead of evenly colored and uniformed in pattern.

The number one benefit of balayage highlights – Longer lasting results, softer line of demarcation and lower maintenance! With the application of traditional foils, the regrowth of the root appears more obvious, causing clients to come for touch-ups every 4 to 6 weeks. Using the balayage technique, clients could hold out longer than 8 weeks saving them time and money.

Keep in mind women with dark hair, balayage may not be the best option – to achieve lighter hair, you need the heat from the foils to remove the pigment. In that case, a mix of both traditional foils and natural-looking balayage streaks could create that perfect “outgrown ombre” trend. Balayage can enhance almost any haircut, length or texture. Customize your next haircut by adding dimension with balayage to compliment the cut.

Balayage is the in-salon color service choice among the celebrities, models and fashionistas worldwide, who demand hair color to be designed exclusively for them.

Tired of Losing Hair? Mure Hair Salon Has a Solution!

On an average, most people lose approximately 100 strands of hair per day, depending on a number of factors including stress, diet and lifestyle. Mure Hair Salon, located in the Upper East Side, is excited to unveil their brand new product line, invati by Aveda, which is clinically proven to reduce 33% of hair loss due to breakage, and allow you to keep your hair for longer!

How do you know if you are a candidate for invati shampoo and conditioner?

  • Does your scalp accumulate build-up and become dry and tight?
  • Does your hair become weak, break easily and lose shine?
  • Has your hair growth slowed down?

Made from an invigorating blend of ayurevedic herbs, the invati shampoo and conditioner is guaranteed to remove build-up that clog pores, while renewing the scalp. By massaging the serum into your hair, it helps to nourish the scalp, restore strength and improve elasticity, ultimately reducing breakage that leads to excess hair loss.

What's in it?

Tumeric,
also referred to as "Kanchani"(meaning Golden Goddess in Sanskrit) is an ingredient that has been used for thousands of years in Ayurveda - the ancient healing art of India- to treat many conditions and illnesses. Due to its preservation properties, it has been considered more precious than gold and is one of the most powerful ingredients for thinning hair.

Ginseng, revered in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years, its root is most prized for its restorative ability to balance and invigorate the body.

Mure Salon promotes all natural and environmental-friendly products to reflect our Upper East Side store. Fishtail Braid – NYC Style

Even weeks after the Emmy’s aired, showcasing television’s hottest stars and their style, celebrities like Heidi Klum, Claire Danes, Kerry Washington still remain the talk of the town. Many clients have come into our salon asking to recreate their trendy dos, but not surprisingly, one look out-shined them all.

The teased and textured, high-fashion fishtail worn by Extra host Maria Menounos has Mure Hair Salon clients flocking into the salon to replicate her look! The fishtail braid (also known as the herringbone or fish bone braid) may appear elaborate, time-consuming and even scary to attempt, but it is shockingly easy to recreate. After mastering our 5 simple steps, we guarantee it will become the next go-to style for your next night out in town.

Maria Menounos proved that a typical weekend style can also work well on the red carpet.
She opted for a softer braid, by swinging her fishtail braid loosely over one shoulder,
and adding extra volume on top with some wispy strands at the front.

1.     Part your hair straight down the middle, dividing it hair into two large sections: For a clean-cut, even look you can use a comb to part your hair; however, if you decide to opt for the tousled look, simply create the part with your fingers instead.

2.     Pull a thin strand of hair from the outside of the left section. Pull it over the top of the left section, and grasp it under the right section. The strand of hair has gone over the left section and comes through under the right section. Keep in mind to use the same amount of hair for each strand throughout or your braid will look uneven. The skinnier the strands, the more intricate the braid!

3.     Repeat directions on the right side. Pull a skinny strand of hair from the outside of the right section, pull it over the right section, and then weave it under the left section.

4.     Alternate sides, weaving over and under. Keep up the rhythm of crisscrossing strands until you reach the bottom of the braid. You can chose to go for a more traditional look, by ending it at the very tip, or you can spice up the braid Mure-Salon- style by tying it halfway down the ponytail!

5.     Secure the end tightly with an elastic band. You can even add a fancy ribbon, barrette or charm to give it the personality that you decide.

But it doesn’t end there! Now, Mure Salon is revealing exclusive secrets on how to take the traditional fishtail to the very next level – Upper East Side style!

Weave pieces of yarn into your braid!

1.     Tie yarn to one layer of hair at the root. Tease the roots at the top to help the yarn stay.
2.     Braid the pieces in with the same technique as seen above. Make sure to various colors and textures. 3.     Trim the excess pieces of yarn, and wrap off the end with a yarn piece for an added touch.

On Sunday, television stars like Leah Dunham, Tina Fey, January Jones and many more graced the red carpet for the 65th Annual Emmy Awards, held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. From sleek and chic, to long loose curls, Mure Salon captured some of the most talked-about hair styles of the night, bringing a part of the L.A Emmy’s to the Upper East Side, New York!

Homeland’s Claire Danes, may have received an Emmy for her portrayal as Carrie, but did her red-carpet-do receive equally impressive recognition? Claire rocked a bob – without even having to cut her hair! The faux bob can be recreated by pulling your lengthy locks into a ponytail, and then twisting and bending it underneath. Secure the look with bobby pins, leaving as many layers up or down. Curl your hair beforehand to give it that extra oomph. Fans and critics immediately took to Twitter to debate whether or not Claire pulled off her hair magic. You decide – do you think
she did? Is this a style that you would wear?

Scandal’s Kerry Washington presented the award for Best Supporting Actor to Bobby Cannavale for his work on Boadwalk Empire. And although the moment was all about Bobby Cannavale, we could not help but pay attention to the way Kerry’s soft, shiny curls complimented her Marchesa dress. Her hair stylist, Marcus Francis created this relaxed and natural look for the Best Actress nominee, with the intentions of making it a “memorable one.” Both he and Kerry aimed for soft elegance mixed with classic simplicity. Do you think he fully executed the style?

Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara opted for a modern yet timeless look. Aside from her figure-hugging mermaid gown, coupled with $7 million in Lorraine Schwartz bling, Sofia’s hair completed this dreamy look. Sofia styled her long, caramel-highlighted strands in soft, cascading waves down her back. To achieve this effortless, do-it-yourself hairstyle at home, take a curling iron to 1-inch pieces of your hair parted all around your head, and gently brush them out with a comb. You can be red-carpet ready in minutes!
Breaking Bad’s Anna Gunn not only walked away with an Emmy for her incredible work as Skyler White on one of television’s hottest shows, but she also walked away with Mure’s nomination for best updo of the night. Her blonde, messy chignon undo appeared classic and elegant, and Emmy-winner appropriate. Although fans and critics of Breaking Bad are not afraid to voice their hatred for her character on the show, there is no denying she nailed this look! …And fans are loving Skyler White’s glamorous alter-ego.

Meanwhile, Anna’s other half, TV-husband, Bryan Cranston “Walter White” was almost unrecognizable at the Emmy’s, making best hair-comeback of the night! His parted and tousled sandy hair is a far cry from the shaven and deadly Heisenberg that we all so hate to love.
